Rush Limbaugh Facing Cancer Resurgence and Reality of “Death Sentence”

Rush Limbaugh announced in his opening segment on Monday October 19th that his cancer prognosis has worsened. The 69 year old, 32 year conservative AM radio host announced that his most recent scan showed his cancer, which had gone into dormancy, was beginning to show new progression.

Limbaugh’s emotional update would suggest that he recognizes his days are numbered.

“From the moment you get the diagnosis, there’s a part of you every day, OK, that’s it, life’s over, you just don’t know when,” Limbaugh said. “So, during the period of time after the diagnosis, you do what you can to prolong life, do what you can to prolong a happy life. You measure a happy life against whatever medication it takes. It’s tough to realize that the days where I do not think I’m under a death sentence are over,” Limbaugh continued. “Now, we all are, is the point. We all know that we’re going to die at some point, but when you have a terminal disease diagnosis that has a time frame to it, then that puts a different psychological and even physical awareness to it.”

Limbaugh initially announced his cancer diagnosis in February of this year. He was invited to the State of the Union Address where he was gifted the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Trump for his career in conservative radio.

“It is cancer, it eventually outsmarts pretty much everything you throw at it…”

Limbaugh immediately began treatment for advanced Stage 4 Lung Cancer and has alternated between hosting his daily radio show and receiving chemotherapy treatments. Rush was well enough as of October 9th to host the self proclaimed “largest virtual town hall in history” for President Trump.

“Mr. Limbaugh… went on to say the progression of the cancer was “not dramatic” but still in the “wrong direction.” He said he’s now under a treatment plan aimed at keeping the progression at bay for as long as possible.”

The Washington Times, 10/19/20

While Limbaugh has claimed the recent progression is “not dramatic”, his dire tone and somber introduction would suggest the situation is very serious. It’s likely that the resurgence reflects a rapidly deteriorating situation and that his prognosis for immediate survival has shrunk radically to weeks or months. Regardless, Mr. Limbaugh appears to be in high spirits and and spoke kindly of his millions of fans who have reached out to him in prayer and support.
